Clash at India Auto Factory Leaves One Dead and Scores Wounded
A fight between workers and managers at a New Delhi auto factory left one person dead and more than 70 wounded. Workers said that the fight started after a supervisor verbally harassed and suspended a worker and called in guards when the union protested. The company says that a worker instigated the fight by assaulting a manager. Workers have protested in the past against working conditions and the practice of hiring temporary workers, who are paid less. A strike last year shut down the plant for a few days, until the government intervened.
