Detroit labor leaders, city workers slam Bing's plan to cut union wages, benefits
Detroit workers and labor leaders are criticizing the city for its plan to impose 10% wage cuts, reduce pensions and increase health care costs. The city received approval from its financial advisory board for the cuts last week. Workers say that the cuts will only end up hurting Detroit, not helping it. The city says that the cuts are necessary, and that they are asking the city council to approve them as soon as possible. If the city council votes the cuts down, the mayor can still impose them.
