Janitors in Houston win raise in tentative contract
Houston janitors have reached an agreement with six of the city's cleaning companies, ending a strike. The agreement would give $0.25 per hour increases for four years, about 2.9% the first year, without increasing working hours. The 3,200 janitors, whose contract expired on May 31 began a strike on July 10, and more workers had been participating the longer the strike continued. The current top wage for the janitors is $8.35 an hour, which will increase to $9.35 in 2016.
