Backers of pro-union amendment ask court to order it on ballot
Supporters of a proposed Michigan constitutional amendment to prohibit restrictions of collective bargaining rights are asking a court to put the proposal on the ballot. The state elections panel rejected the proposal last week, saying that it was too broad and the effects were unclear. Supporters say that courts have never required proposed amendments to reference every law that they might effect, and that this is a dangerous precedent. The court is expected to rule on the proposal by Monday, and the case is then expected to go to the Michigan Supreme Court.
