Hundreds of Bronx workers go on strike after giant pharmaceutical manufacturer Perrigo locks them out
Workers at a Bronx pharmaceutical factory were locked out after Labor Day. Workers rejected a new contract last week, after their agreement with the company expired on August 31. The workers say that they want a larger pay increase than the company had offered. Workers start at $8.50 an hour, and many make below $15 an hour, despite years of experience and dangerous tasks. The Teamsters, which represents the 350 workers, said that the company was not moving from its previous offer. The company, Perrigo, is one of the largest pharmaceutical manufacturers in the world.
