Chicago car wash workers report getting less than minimum wage: report
According to a new report, Chicago car wash workers are often paid below the minimum wage and not compensated for overtime. The survey, which reached about a third of the car wash workers in Chicago, found that 75% earned below the minimum wage and fewer than 2% earned the appropriate pay for overtime. About 80% of the workers said that they worked more than 40 hours a week. Altogether, workers lost an average of $4,000 a year. The report also found that 80% of workers lacked safety equipment, and 40% had been cut on the job.
