Chipotle signs fair food agreement with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers
The restaurant chain Chipotle has signed an agreement with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, the eleventh food retailer to do so. The agreement states that Chipotle will by tomatoes and other produce from growers who pay fair wages and follow labor laws. Chipotle had refused to enter into an agreement for six years, saying that it was already committed to fair labor practices. The CIW planned a protest at a Chipotle festival next week, and the company decided to sign the agreement. The workers say that the agreement will lead to better working conditions for laborers, and a more sustainable industry.
