In Drive to Unionize, Fast-Food Workers Walk Off the Job
New York City fast food workers at Wendy's, Domino's, Taco Bell and other chains walked out on Thursday to protest low wages and retaliation against workers. Workers say that they cannot make enough to support themselves, and that a union would make a huge difference. A campaign to organize the workers would be the first large-scale campaign in the country, mainly due to the difficulties in organizing fast food chains, which have a high turnover rate. The median wage for fast food workers in New York City is $9 an hour.
