Fehr claims NHL deal 'fairly close'
A lawyer working with the National Hockey League Players' Association says that the two sides are closer to an agreement, and once a breakthrough is made the agreement will be completed quickly. The National Hockey League locked out the players after the two sides failed to reach an agreement, putting the hockey season in jeopardy. The main issue has been how revenue will be divided up, with the NHL demanding a higher share than in the past, and the union making counter-offers with various provisions. Another sticking point has been the limits on free agency. The two sides met on Sunday, but no new meetings have been scheduled. Over a quarter of the season has been canceled, including the New Year's Day Winter Classic.
