Strike settlement to reopen Los Angeles ports to normal freight traffic
The Los Angeles and Long Beach ports are set to reopen on Wednesday after an eight-day strike. The clerical workers reached a tentative agreement on Tuesday night, and union officials said that they and the other workers who had refused to cross the picket line would return to work on Wednesday. The two sides said that the contract, which still needs to be ratified by the members, includes an agreement around outsourcing. The strike cost the region an estimated $8 billion.
