Still on Strike, a Bus Union Sees a Threat to Its Culture
For New York City bus drivers, who are continuing to strike, the city's proposed changes to seniority would cause massive upheaval in their jobs. Bus drivers are assigned based on seniority and work rules by one of the companies that the city subcontracts to. The city called for new bids on routes, which would effect some drivers. The strike, which has shut down about 5,000 of the 7,700 school bus routes, is expected to continue this week. The two sides have agreed to meet with a mediator on Monday.
