Flu Season Prompts Debate Over Paid Sick Time Laws
As flu season begins to affect many workers, some are debating the need for mandatory paid sick leave for workers. Workers in the service industry are often not given paid sick leave, and for workers such as those in the food service industry, that can affect customers as well. Critics say that mandatory sick leave adversely affects small businesses, but advocates say that the difference it makes for employees is too important. New York City has considered a sick leave proposal for three years and may vote on it soon.
