South Africa Raises Farmworkers' Minimum Wage in Wake of Strikes
The South African government has agreed to a 52% increase in the minimum wage for farm workers. The increase comes after strikes led to violence and interrupted harvests. The government said that it is important for the agriculture industry to remain stable. Farming makes up about 6.5% of South Africa's exports.
