AMR, US Airways Announce Merger
American Airlines and US Airways have approved a merger, a move that will create the largest airline in the world. The new company will be called American Airlines. The two companies said that they do not see any anti-trust problems with the merger because many of their routes do not overlap. The merger comes after American Airlines finished bankruptcy proceedings earlier this year. The two airlines plan to negotiate with their employees jointly, a move which they estimate will save about $400 million a year.
