Michigan Bar to Forced Union Dues Challenged in Lawsuit
Michigan unions are challenging the state's new law that bars union from requiring workers to pay dues if they are covered by a union. The unions say that the law violates the Constitution and federal labor statutes. The right-to-work law was passed in December by the Michigan Legislature. The state has asked the Michigan Supreme Court to rule on whether the law is applicable to state employees. It is also being challenged on procedural grounds.
