Dozens fight union fines over strike at Joliet Caterpillar plant
About 24 Caterpillar workers are suing the Machinists union at the company's Joliet, Illinois plant for fining them. The workers say that they were fined after crossing the picket line during a strike last summer, but should not have been because they have not been members of the union for years. The workers say that they were not informed that they were able to resign from the union due to state laws. About 100 workers were fined for crossing the picket line.
