AFL-CIO president seeks to head off fight over representing American-US Airways workers
As American Airlines and US Airways continue with their merger, the AFL-CIO says that the unions who currently represent the workers, the Transport Workers Union and the International Association of Machinists, should work together rather than force workers to choose. The labor federation says that the unions should focus on organizing unrepresented workers rather than fighting over those already in a union. The unions announced that they had reached a seniority agreement over the weekend. The merger is expected to be finalized in September.
