Fast-food workers in Detroit joining a growing wave of walkouts over wages
Fast food workers in Detroit staged a one-day strike on Friday, following a similar strike in St. Louis yesterday. Workers are asking for $15 an hour, a significant increase from what they are receiving now. Advocates say that fast food and other service jobs are a growing sector of the economy, and that workers deserve to be paid more in order to support themselves and their families. About 53,000 people in the Detroit area are estimated to work for fast-food restaurants.
