AFL-CIO wants original deal for H-1B workers
The AFL-CIO submitted a letter to senators on Monday detailing a list of immigration proposals that it will and will not support. Maintaining labor protections for immigrant workers, reinstatement of the original agreement on H-1B workers and ensuring an accessible path to citizenship were among the measures that the union is advocating for. Denying immigrants federal benefits and adjustments to the guest-worker program it recently negotiated with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce were among the items that the union said it would fight. Thus far, the components of the guest-worker program have remained intact during senate negotiations.
