Striking farmworkers afraid of guest-worker program
Workers at Sakuma Brothers Farms in Washington walked off the job for the second time in two weeks Tuesday, disgruntled over the farm?s plans to import guest workers from Mexico for the upcoming harvest. The growers claim they face a labor shortage. Under the federal government?s H-2A program, growers can legally bring workers into the United States. The striking workers however doubt the sincerity of the labor shortage and claim that positions could be filled if working conditions and wages were improved.
