Parents losing jobs a hidden cost to US Head Start budget cuts
Sequester induced budget cuts have removed $400 million of funding from the Head Start program, resulting in the loss of about 60,000 slots for lower income families in preschools. Subsequently, many parents, unable to find alternate affordable daycare, have had to quit their jobs or school. The cuts have also forced organizations who formerly received funding for the program to reduce the sizes of their staff.
