Canada loses 39,400 jobs in July as government hires wane
Statistics released by the Canadian federal government Friday showed that the unemployment rate rose from 7.1 percent to 7.2 percent in July. The numbers reflected a slowdown in public sector hiring and youth employment. Hiring in the manufacturing sector however picked up in July, rising by 13,500. The Canadian dollar depreciated on the data.
