In health care industry, who will keep workers safe?
A report by the consumer rights advocacy group Public Citizen found that workers in the health care sector incur more job-related injuries and illnesses than any other sector in the economy. While the number of healthcare workers is double that of construction workers, the Occupational Health and Safety Administration conducts 20 times more inspections at construction sites than at hospitals and other medical sites. The report attributed the disproportion to OSHA?s limited budget, which it has to stretch across oversight of 7 million work sites around the country.
