Mercedes accused of interfering with union campaign at Alabama plant
Mercedes has been accused of ?[interfering], [restraining] and [coercing]? employees for exercising their National Labor Relations Act guaranteed rights during the UAW campaign at the company?s Tuscaloosa plant. The union claims, amongst other things, that the company prohibited employees from even discussing the union or organizing but allowed other non-work conversations, prohibited employees from distributing organizing literature, and is using threats to discourage further organizing efforts. The company says that the claims are unsubstantiated and that it is neutral on the topic of union organizing. The Unfair Labor Practice process is delayed significantly by the government shutdown.
