Businesses again challenge union poster rules
The National Association of Manufacturers has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Labor which asserts that requiring federal contractors to display posters informing employees of their right to form a union is violating the free speech of employers. The Department of Labor rules, which affect the federal government and contractors, have been in place since 2010, but a federal appeals court struck down a similar rule that the NLRB has put in place. The workers employed by an organization affected by the Department of Labor rule make up about 22% of the U.S. workforce. Both the NLRB and the Department of Labor rule both stem from the removal in 2009 by President Barack Obama of an executive order, the ?Beck Rule?, which was issued by President George W. Bush.
