Labor faces backlash over BART strikes
A new Field Poll found that the two BART strikes in California have increased the percent of those polled that say unions do more harm than good. The poll took place statewide and results were similar: an increase from 34% in 2011 believing that unions do more harm than good to 47% this year. With a ballot measure this upcoming year to increase public pensions, the drop in public opinion may be especially painful. One sign of the turning tide is a proposal by State Senator Bob Huff which would bar transportation workers from striking, though the bill is likely to fail.
