Goodyear Reaches Deal With French Union
After having two of its executives taken captive by their workers, the Goodyear Corporation presented a severance package that had three times the pay that had been offered previously. The 1,173 workers, many of whom were on strike, have agreed to the severance package in exchange for the workers removing themselves from the plant and allowing it to close. A union lawyer has said that the payout is between $163,000 and $176,000 per worker. The union, as is typical in France, has stated that it will still pursue the case in labor court because it sees no economic reason for the plant?s closing. The French government has stated its support of the agreement.
