Union could strike at Hopkins after no new deal reached
A strike may be imminent at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland after SEIU 1199 members have reached an impasse with management on the basis of wages. The current contract expired at midnight last night and a strike is scheduled to take place in 10 days unless an agreement was reached. The union, which represents about 2,000 health care workers, are pushing for the hospital to offer a $15 per hour minimum wage, but thus far a union representative has indicated that management has not suggested that it could agree to anything more than $12 per hour. Johns Hopkins has said that it has negotiated in good faith and will continue to do so, but did not provide any indication of whether or not or when an agreement could be reached.
