More People Are Quitting Their Jobs, but Not Enough
The latest labor market report does bolster the idea that the recovery is picking up based on the number of Americans quitting their jobs. Although the percent of workers who voluntarily quit in February was the same as January, 1.7%, and slightly down from December?s percent, 1.8%, it is significantly closer to the long-term average of 2.1% since 2000. Janet Yellen, the Federal Reserve Chairwomen has said that the number still needs to increase to signal truer worker confidence. Regular and higher levels of voluntary churn in the labor market often opens up jobs for unemployed job seekers.
