Anger over Turkey mine disaster prompts union strike
In the biggest industrial accident in Turkey in over 20 years, more than 282 miners have been declared with dozens more missing. The tragedy has sparked the country?s largest union to go on strike for 24-hours to protest the appalling working conditions that Turkish miners endure every day. The Public Workers Union Confederation (KESK) also called out for accountability in a letter coauthored with three other large unions, which also called for demonstrations. More than 20,000 people took to the streets in protests that eventually led to clashes with police.
