UAW Constitutional Convention 2014: Leaders tout solidarity; dues increase vote expected today
Today during the 36th UAW Constitutional Convention the focus was on worker solidarity and rights. The outgoing UAW President Bob King put special emphasis on urging the union to maintain focus on unionization of foreign automakers in the U.S. and building global worker solidarity. Other noteworthy speakers included Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Volkswagen general secretary Frank Patta, U.S. Representative John Conyers Jr., President of the SEIU Mary Kay Henry, and IndustriALL President Berthold Hubor. Approximately 1,100 delegates from the union?s local chapters in the U.S., Canada, and Puetro Rico will voted on changes to the union?s constitution, dues increases, and who will be the union?s next president.
