Muni Faces Major Delays With Two-Thirds Of Vehicles Not Running Due To Worker ?Sickout?
San Francisco?s Municipal Transportation Agency is warning riders of major delays today as two-thirds of its busses are inoperable due to a massive sickout by the transportation workers. About 400 of the Agency?s 600 busses are not running today. The sickout is meant to demonstrate the dissatisfaction that the Transportation Workers Union Local 250 feels at the latest offer made by Muni?s administrators. The most recent offer, which was held to a vote by union members on Friday, would raise the transportation workers pay to $32 per hour, the second highest in the nation. Since the workers are municipal employees, they are prohibited from striking, but a sickout hasn?t occurred since 2010 when 20% of employees did not show up for their scheduled shifts.
