Council votes to end collective bargaining
City Council members in Fort Wayne voted on Tuesday to end collective bargaining for most city employees. The only public employee unions spared were the police and firefighters?. Though the measure to remove collective bargaining passed, a parliamentary action delayed the effects for two weeks which may give opponents time to form a response. The bill had been one of three that were all introduced to the City Council session to eliminate public sector collective bargaining in the city. With the first bill passed, the other two were tabled until a later session. Fort Wayne?s mayor will still have to sign the bill once the two week delay and revote are over.
