New Costs From Health Law Snarl Union Contract Talks
Labor negotiations nation-wide have stalled due to conflict over who should bear the burden of new healthcare costs under the Affordable Care Act. ACA related additional costs range between 5% and 12.5% of total healthcare costs. The increases are due to taxes on premium health plans starting in 2018, an increase to the age of dependents on their parents? healthcare plan. The potential impasses range from housekeepers in Las Vegas, transit workers in Philadelphia, and flight attendants working for Alaska Airlines. For one Unite Here local chapter in Las Vegas the changes are projected to mean more than an additional $26 million in healthcare costs and an extra 14,000 dependents added to healthcare plans.
