Guitar Center Accused Of Unfair Labor Practices
The union representing retail employees at three Guitar Center stores filed a complaint to the NLRB charging the instrument retail giant with unfair labor practices. The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union won the right to represent workers at the stores last year, but has had a difficult fight reaching a contract agreement, contending the company is using stalling tactics in hopes the union dissolves before an agreement is reached. The union was organized to address concerns regarding wages for commissioned sales employees, health care, and other issues. The RWDSU claims Guitar Center has refused to even respond to bargaining proposals by the union, while simultaneously addressing grievances at non-union stores, in an attempt to punish unionized workers. The NLRB's investigation of the charges is ongoing.
