Mexican Mining Giant Faces Criticism After Chemical Spill Near U.S. Border
The Company Grupo Mexico contaminated 24,000 peoples? water supply when 10 million gallons of chemicals spilled out of the Buenavista del Cobre mine. The company put $151 million toward cleaning up the spill. In addition, workers are striking in Sonora, Mexico over unsafe working conditions. Workers also held protests in 2007 over dangerous health and safety conditions.
