Chicago Teachers Union files labor complaint against school board
Teachers in Chicago filed a complaint with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board, charging that the city has refused to negotiate in good faith. The Chicago Teachers Union made the move after the Chicago school board proposed teachers pay a greater portion of contributions to their pension fund, which the CTU charges will result in a 7% decrease in teachers' take home pay. The union also alleges the city's proposal serves as retaliation for its support in the last mayoral election of Jesus Garcia, who was defeated by the incumbent Rahm Emanuel.
