German Train Drivers Start Strike Seen Costing $100 Million a Day
Yesterday, conductors in Germany went on strike demanding better wages and more negotiating power. The train drivers plan to go on a sixty-six hour strike. It is estimated that the strike could cost the railway company as much as $100 million euros a day. The GDL union is demanding a 5% wage increase and a working week of 37 hours for its 200,000 members.
