Government paves way for benefit cuts for retirees in underfunded multi-employer pension plans
Multiemployer private pension plans, which are run by a union and many employers, will face cuts according to the Obama administration. The cuts will be to underfunded plans, which will affect 10% of those covered. The law proposing these cuts was passed last year and has faced opposition by the Teamsters and AARP.
