Coronavirus Highlights Inequities in the Workplace
In response to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, big employers have taken many preventative measures such as restricting travel, canceling large gatherings, and instructing employees to work from home. However, the outbreak is also highlighting the gaps in how employers treat different classes of workers. For example, the remote work guidelines generally apply to full-time employees with health benefits and the ability to do their job as long as they have access to the internet. Hourly or contract workers typically aren’t offered the same perks and have to be physically present to do their job.
