Pork Producers Association faces challenges due to COVID-19
Pork Producers who are part of the Iowa Pork Producers Association are working with the Iowa Department of Public Health and Iowa’s Governor in order to combat production issues during the COVID-19 outbreak. A number of recommendations have been made for pork producers regarding labor and health issues. With regard to pork production employees, the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) recommends that employers offer flexible leave and sickness policies. Additionally, the IDPH urges employers to consider where additional staff members might come from, if necessary. IDPH has also stated that if an employee involved in livestock operations becomes sick, all individuals who have had direct contact with that person will need to remain at home.
