Labor Dept Inspector General to retire following warning about pandemic relief fund fraud
Labor Department Inspector General Scott Dahl will retire on June 21st, citing long-planned personal reasons. On Monday, Dahl had testified to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that the Labor Department’s pandemic unemployment assistance program may be at risk of fraud totaling almost $110 billion dollars. Dahl said that the Labor Department had been alerted that the states' method of self-certification to determine eligibility was susceptible to fraud, and had asked for a response by June 2, the day Dahl announced his retirement. Dahl also noted in his testimony that he had been surprised by OSHA's low citation rate during the pandemic so far, and noted that further investigation would be done; this follows the recent request by a group of senators asking for a review of OSHA's activities during the pandemic.
