Unemployed Americans struggle on state benefits as they wait for reduced federal benefits
About 30 million Americans are relying on state benefits as they await the reduced federal benefits from President Trump's executive order to take effect. The order has been criticized by labor groups and Democrats as avoiding Congressional approval and adding more work to state state unemployment offices who are struggling with backlogs on unpaid claims and back pay. State unemployment benefits can be as low as $58 a week. Many of the unemployed have resorted to GoFundMe campaigns to be able afford medications and other necessities. It's estimated that there are currently 14 million more unemployed Americans than there are available jobs.
