Mothers In the Workplace "At a Tipping Point"
The Coronavirus pandemic has created a childcare crisis for many workers. As many schools and daycare centers have opted to remain closed, or are forced to remain close due to state guidelines many working mothers have found themselves in a difficult predicament. The child care crisis, has a disparate impact on women and employment statistics reflect that impact. The unemployment rate for adult women was 8.4% in August, compared to 8% for men, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Furthermore, women ages 25 to 44 are almost three times as likely as men to not be working during the pandemic due to child care demands, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
