NLRB Complaint Filed Against Google
Federal labor regulators have alleged that Google illegally fired two employees who had sought to inform fellow workers about their job rights. The NLRB alleges that Google "surveilled" and "interrogated" employees over their activities and selectively enforced workplace policies to discourage workers from organizing. The two employees that were fired, Kathryn Spiers and Laurence Berland, created a pop-up notification that reminded workers fo their rights to discuss workplace issues without fear of retaliation and made posts challenging Google on the internal communication tool, MemeGen. Google denies the allegations and claims that the employees that were fired clearly violated the company's security policy. However, the labor board contends that Google selectively enforces its security policy and applies it only to employees who engage in protected, concerted activities.
