Medium workers have announced they’re forming a union with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 9410. The Medium Workers Union asserts that more than 70 percent of eligible employees have already signed cards in support, currently representing 140 workers across editorial, engineering, design, and product. The organization plans to negotiate a contract for its members. Right now, CWA Local 9410 is asking Medium to voluntarily recognize the union. If the company refuses, the union can force recognition through the National Labor Relations Board as long as a majority of employees vote in favor of unionization. The announcement highlights a trend of digital media companies unionizing.
