Monetary bonuses one way to encourage vaccinations
The urgency to increase the vaccination rate in any company's workforce is increasing, with healthcare organizations leading the way. Some employers are mandating the requirement immediately, such as United Airlines, Tyson Foods, and Walmart, while others are willing to encourage but reluctant to mandate, such as American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and Southwest. And others are sweetening the pot by offering paid time off, or in the case of Dr. Bronner's, offering a $1000 cash bonus. Among states, there is greater disparity with approaches, with some states refusing to mandate for any employer, and others, like Washington state, requiring it for all state employees and contractors. Unions have also been split in opinion, with the United Food and Commercial Workers union stating their concerns over Tyson Food's mandate, due to the fact that the vaccines have yet to be fully FDA approved. Similarly, SEIU Local 1000 in California sent a cease and desist letter to the California Department of Human Resources, arguing for the civil liberties of those who do not wish to be vaccinated.
