Disney workers are calling for Disney to reevaluate their layoffs
Disney hotels have reopened and left some workers in limbo. They have cut whole departments and operations resulting in laid off and furloughed employees in addition to the job loss during the pandemic. With unemployment benefits and cobra health coverage set to end next month, employees who have been laid off are worried. Employees who have worked for Disney dining and other operations for many years will now have to reapply for completely different positions and will not be privy to the same rates of pay, health benefits, or union representation. The Coalition of Resort Labor Unions representing 17,000 Disney workers organized in early August calling for the company to restore jobs and provide higher wages.
