UNM to appeal ruling that grad students can unionize
The University of New Mexico will be appealing a ruling that graduate student employees are able to unionize. In August, the state Public Employees Labor Relations Board ruled that graduate student workers could unionize and earlier this month the board called for a card check to see if a majority of them wanted to unionize. It was reported on Sunday that UNM has filed a notice of intent to appeal in the 2nd Judicial District Court. A spokeswoman for the university said the appeal is “not meant to reflect negatively on the value of graduate student employees.”
