Contractor ordered to pay $125,000 for misclassifying workers
Des Moines contractor, AJ plumbing, has been ordered to pay $125,000 to workers. U.S. Department of Labor investigators found that the company had been classifying workers as pipelayers when they should have been classified as contractors. The company has agreed to pay $106,000 to 34 workers who the federal investigators claim received less pay than the federal minimum due to their misclassification. The company will also pay workers $19,000 for failing to follow federal overtime laws.
